How much Apple Cider Vinegar Should you Drink Daily?
Yep. I’m one of those people who pretty much put apple cider vinegar in and on EVERYTHING. You know the dad in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding?” How whenever someone had an ailment, he brought out his Windex and swore that it could fix pretty much anything? That’s how I feel about apple cider vinegar.
Because apple cider vinegar is safe, you can drink it as much as you want! That being said, don’t overdo it. And if you drink it, make sure you dilute it with water. I’m pretty sure I would throw up if I did a shot of it without being diluted.
What are the health benefits of apple cider vinegar?
I’ve used ACV on anything from my acne to soaking my tired and callused feet. I’ve taken diluted shots of it when I feel a cold coming on and poured it on my scalp to help with dandruff.
It’s a miracle liquid that I only wished I knew about earlier!
It’s probably not news to you how health fanatics rave about its benefits, but I wanted to share with you about how it was part of the reason I’ve healed from the inside out.
How Apple Cider Vinegar Aided in Healing My Body
Almost two years ago, I woke up one day feeling like I was dying. I had shortness of breath, chills, muscle aches, a fever, and could hardly move. It was almost as though I had the worst flu of my life, but with no cold-like or stomach bug symptoms that usually come along with it.
It took me a few days in bed to feel better again. I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep. It was awful.
Fast forward to over a year later, and this is something that plagued me once every two to four weeks.
I went to doctor after doctor. Nothing. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease, an autoimmune disease, a Hiatal hernia, ulcers — once I thought I finally figured it out, the supposed cure for that certain thing wouldn’t work, and I was again left confused and frustrated.
There was literally nothing I could do but wait out my sickness and feel better a few days later.
That summer, I finally tried some antacid medication, as one doctor suggested I just had really bad acid reflux. Even though I got a Barium swallow and an ultrasound procedure done to rule out esophageal scarring that would signify acid reflux, my doctor insisted.
For some odd reason, I didn’t get sick the entire summer.
But alas, come fall, I got sick again. For some reason, the antacids weren’t working anymore.
At that point, I decided to see a naturopath who could possibly provide me with answers. He was my last resort before I would give up and just accept my new way of life.
He had me go on an anti-inflammatory diet that eliminated all the foods I was tested to be allergic to. I ate nothing but a handful of meats and veggies, some seeds, and nuts for two months, and did a round of supplements that would clear me any parasites, viruses, or fungal infections. Unfortunately, I had to give up coffee and caffeinated tea, as well as all alcohol.
At the end of the day, I felt great, but my sickness still came from time to time. When it did come, I didn’t feel near as bad as I usually did. But it was still there.
After a friend told me about an apple cider vinegar supplement she takes, I decided to try it out for myself. I had used ACV for various things throughout my life, but having it in the form of a pill was something I had never heard of. How convenient, I thought.
I ordered one off of Amazon, and I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t get sick for a few months!
Fast forward to today, and I hardly get sick anymore. If I have a rough night’s sleep or eat really bad and drink too much alcohol or coffee, I don’t feel great. But as long as I take my ACV pill every day, I feel pretty good.
I have no scientific evidence to say that the apple cider vinegar pill has anything to do with my body healing. But I truly believe it played a big part in it. As I still don’t know the cause of my symptoms, I can tell that I feel overall better when I take my ACV pill daily.
ACV for Stomach and Digestive Issues
I have a sinking suspicion that I had some kind of bad acid reflux that caused my body to go into shock. Since ACV is a natural aid for acid reflux sufferers, it only makes sense that it helps. But how can an acidic vinegar be helpful for those who overproduce acid?
Well, I learned a little something from my naturopath:
When stomach PH levels are adequate, your stomach is acidic. It’s supposed to be to break down and digest your food properly. But when your esophageal sphincter isn’t closing properly, the acid escapes into your esophagus, causing heartburn.
But what most people get wrong is that for your esophageal sphincter to close, your PH levels in your stomach need to be correct. If they aren’t, your sphincter will weaken.
Acid reducer medication will help symptoms, bringing down the acid in your stomach, but it won’t correct your sphincter from opening.
The long term effects can be devastating.
Because I am not a doctor, naturopath, or nutritionist, I can only speak from personal experience and knowledge I’ve acquired through my healing process. It’s always important to speak with a professional if you’re having any health problems.
I simply want to explain why apple cider vinegar, which is an acid, helps heartburn sufferers. You would think the opposite. But because ACV helps bring the PH in your stomach to a healthy level, it helps close your sphincter, which in return, keeps your stomach acid where it should be.
Please don’t take my word for it, but that’s the only thing I can associate with my body, finally finding healing.
I find it sad we don’t take more advantage of the natural ways to heal our bodies. I’m definitely an advocate for modern medicine, as it’s truly incredible and necessary. But I’m so glad I finally turned to natural medicine and found healing for something I thought I would have to live with.
That being said, I love apple cider vinegar, and that’s only one of the reasons I do. Here are the incredible health benefits that apple cider vinegar provides.
